Getting started

Everything you need to install Health SatNav on your phone, get set up, and make the most of it once you’re in.

Install the app

You won’t find Health SatNav in the App Store or Google Play. It’s a web app: you install it straight from your browser, and it then sits on your home screen and opens full-screen, just like any other app. There’s nothing to download from a store, and updates arrive automatically.

Start by opening app.healthsatnav.com on the device you want to use, then follow the steps for that device.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open app.healthsatnav.com in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button. On newer versions of iOS you may need to tap ••• next to the address bar first, then Share.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. If you see Open as Web App, make sure it’s switched on.
  5. Tap Add.

Health SatNav now appears on your Home Screen. Open it from there rather than from Safari, so it runs full-screen like an app.

Android

  1. Open app.healthsatnav.com in Chrome.
  2. If a banner offers to install Health SatNav, tap Install and you’re done.
  3. Otherwise, tap the menu (⋮) at the top right and choose Install app. Depending on your version of Chrome, this may be called Add to home screen or Install and create shortcut.
  4. Tap Install to confirm.

Health SatNav now appears on your home screen and in your app list. Samsung Internet works the same way: look for Add page to → Home screen in its menu.

Computer

  1. Open app.healthsatnav.com.
  2. Chrome or Edge: click the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar, or open the browser menu and look for Install Health SatNav.
  3. Safari on a Mac: choose File → Add to Dock.

Health SatNav is designed for your phone first, but you can use it on a computer too. You’ll still need to sign in on each device you use.

Getting set up

Setting up takes a few minutes. You’ll need an email address you can get to, and you must be 18 or over.

  1. Create your account. Open the app, tap Create an account, and enter your email, a password and your date of birth. Read and agree to the terms, then tap Create account.
  2. Confirm your email. We’ll email you a confirmation code. Enter it and tap Confirm. If it hasn’t arrived after a few minutes, check your junk folder or tap Resend code.
  3. Tell us about you. Your name, date of birth, sex at birth, ethnicity and height. These help us compare your results against the right reference ranges, which can differ between groups of people. You can choose Prefer not to say for ethnicity.
  4. Answer a few questions. Things like what you’d most like to focus on and how proactive you’d like Health SatNav to be. You can skip any question you’d rather not answer.
  5. Add your first reading. Health SatNav needs at least one piece of health data before it can show you anything. Whatever you have is fine: a blood pressure reading, your resting heart rate, or a blood test report.

When you sign in, you’ll see a Keep me signed in on this device option. Tick it on your own phone so you aren’t signed out. Leave it unticked on a shared or public device; you’ll then be signed out automatically after a period of inactivity.

Adding your health data

The more you add, the clearer your picture becomes. Everything starts from the + button in the middle of the bottom bar: tap it, then Add health data.

  • Take photo or Photo Library: photograph a paper report or the screen of a blood pressure monitor, or pick a screenshot you’ve already taken.
  • Choose files: upload a lab report or export, such as a PDF, spreadsheet or document.
  • Enter a reading: type in a single measurement yourself. Pick the metric, enter the value and unit, add a note if you like, and tap Record reading.

Health SatNav reads photos and documents for you and pulls out the results, so you don’t need to type them in. Results from any laboratory, provider or country are fine.

Readings that can be compared against a reference range, such as blood pressure or glucose, appear under Core Biomarkers in the My Data tab. Everything else, such as sleep, weight and steps, appears under Other data, where you can follow the trend over time.

Understanding your results

Your Home screen shows how many of your biomarkers are On route and how many Need attention, followed by your wellness considerations: a top three to focus on today, with more detail grouped across ten areas of health, including food, movement, sleep and environment.

Tap any biomarker to see your latest reading, how it compares with its range, and how it has changed over time. Each reading is marked as:

  • Optimal: within the range where things tend to work well.
  • Borderline: drifting away from that range, so worth keeping an eye on.
  • Action needed: outside the range. Something to look into, and possibly to discuss with a healthcare professional.

The direction of travel matters as much as any single number, which is why adding new readings over time is so useful. Our ranges are a general guide, and your laboratory may use slightly different ones. Read more about this idea in Getting In The Green.

Health SatNav doesn’t diagnose or replace your doctor. If you feel seriously unwell, contact the appropriate healthcare or emergency service.

Goals and your daily plan

A goal gives Health SatNav something to steer towards. Open the Goals tab and either pick a starting point, such as Sleep better, More energy or Reduce stress, or tap Create your own goal and describe it in your own words. Something personal works well, like “Dance at my daughter’s wedding”.

You have one active goal at a time. You can edit it whenever you like, and tap Mark as complete when you get there.

The Today tab shows today’s plan: a short set of suggestions for the day, shaped by your goal and your latest data. It updates as you add new readings.

Asking questions

Tap +, then Ask the Agent, to ask Health SatNav anything about your health data. What does this result mean? Why has this changed? What might I talk to my GP about? You can attach a photo or document to a message too, and any results in it are added to your data.

Your conversations are saved automatically. Tap the history icon to find an earlier one.

The assistant is there to help you understand your data, not to give medical advice. It can make mistakes, so check anything important with a healthcare professional.

Your data and account

Your data is yours. Open your profile from the picture at the top right of the app, then go to Your data:

  • Download a copy. Tap Prepare my download, then Download my data. The download link works for one hour.
  • Delete your data. Removes your readings and progress history while keeping your account, so you can start again.

Also in your profile: Email preferences to choose which emails you get, and Sign out of all devices if you’ve signed in somewhere you’d rather not stay signed in. To close your account completely, email support@healthsatnav.com.

Troubleshooting

I can’t see “Add to Home Screen” or “Install”

This usually means the link opened inside another app, such as Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp or your email app, whose built-in browser can’t install web apps. Copy the link into Safari on iPhone, or Chrome on Android, and try again. If you’ve already installed Health SatNav, the option won’t appear a second time: look for it on your home screen.

How do I update the app?

You don’t need to. When a new version is ready you’ll see “A new version is available” at the top of the screen. Tap Refresh to update straight away. If you dismiss it, the update is applied the next time you fully close and reopen the app.

My photo or file won’t upload

Photos can be up to 5 MB and documents up to 25 MB, with up to 10 at a time. Some iPhone photos are saved in a format (HEIC) we can’t read yet. If one is rejected, take a screenshot of it and upload that instead, or use Take photo.

Why do I keep getting signed out?

Unless you tick Keep me signed in on this device when you sign in, Health SatNav signs you out after a period of inactivity to protect your information. Tick it on your own devices only.

I’ve forgotten my password

Tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen. We’ll email you a code you can use to choose a new password.

Can I use Health SatNav on more than one device?

Yes. Install it on each device and sign in with the same email and password. Your data is stored in your account, not on the device, so it’s the same everywhere.

How do I remove the app?

Remove it like any other app: on iPhone, press and hold the icon and choose Remove App; on Android, press and hold and choose Uninstall. This only removes it from that device. Your account and data stay as they are until you delete them from inside the app.
